Andy’s practice renews and extends the American traditions of hard edge painting and lyrical abstraction. Whether he is in Hong Kong or Appalachia, his muse is the landscape. His paintings toe the line between representation and abstraction, reducing complex forms to austere, elegant constellations of points, in a drawing style inspired by the stars in the night sky. All this is informed by many years as a professor of color theory, painting, and art history. He now paint full time, every day working to make something that hits your heart through your eye before your mind gets involved.
